Copyright and License

Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research is committed to protecting authors’ rights while supporting the widest possible lawful dissemination and reuse of published scholarly work.

Copyright Ownership

Authors retain copyright in articles published by Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research.

The journal does not require authors to transfer full copyright ownership to the journal or publisher. By submitting and publishing an article, the authors grant the journal and Malebbi Global Care the right of first publication and a non-exclusive right to publish, reproduce, distribute, display, archive, preserve, and promote the article as part of the journal’s scholarly record.

Authors remain the copyright holders of their published work unless a different copyright arrangement is required by law, employment obligations, institutional policy, or a separate written agreement.

Publication License

All articles published by Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, commonly referred to as CC BY 4.0.

Under this license, readers and other users may:

• copy and redistribute the published material in any medium or format;

• share the article through repositories, websites, learning platforms, and scholarly networks;

• adapt, translate, remix, transform, and build upon the published work;

• use the article for teaching, research, professional, institutional, and commercial purposes; and

• create derivative works based on the published material.

These permissions apply provided that users comply with the attribution requirements of the CC BY 4.0 license.

Attribution Requirements

When reusing material published by the journal, users must:

• give appropriate credit to the author or authors;

• provide the title of the article;

• identify Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research as the original place of publication;

• include the year of publication and available bibliographic information;

• provide a link to the original published article when possible;

• provide a link to the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License; and

• clearly indicate whether any changes, translations, adaptations, or modifications were made.

Attribution must not suggest that the authors, editors, journal, or publisher endorse the user, the reuse, or the adapted work unless written permission has been granted.

Right of First Publication

Authors grant Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research the right of first publication.

This means that the journal is authorized to publish the accepted article as the original version of record and to identify itself as the article’s first scholarly publisher.

The right of first publication does not prevent authors from subsequently sharing, reproducing, translating, adapting, or reusing their work in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 license.

Non-Exclusive Publishing Rights

The publishing rights granted to the journal are non-exclusive.

Authors may enter into additional non-exclusive arrangements for the distribution or reuse of the published version of their work, provided that the original publication in Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research is properly acknowledged.

Examples include including the article in:

• an institutional repository;

• a subject-based repository;

• an academic book or edited volume;

• a thesis or dissertation;

• a teaching module;

• a conference collection;

• a personal or professional website; or

• another scholarly or educational publication.

Any later publication must acknowledge that the article was first published in Lontara: Journal of Learning, Teaching, and Research.

Author Self-Archiving

Authors may deposit and share the submitted, accepted, or published version of their article through lawful scholarly communication channels.

Authors may archive their work in:

• institutional repositories;

• disciplinary or subject repositories;

• personal websites;

• academic networking services;

• research project websites;

• learning management systems; and

• other non-restrictive scholarly platforms.

No embargo period is imposed on the published version of the article.

When depositing or sharing an article, authors are encouraged to include the complete citation and a link to the journal’s official version.

Author Reuse Rights

Authors may reuse all or part of their published article without requesting additional permission from the journal, provided that the original publication is properly acknowledged.

Authors may reuse their work in:

• future research publications;

• books and book chapters;

• teaching and training materials;

• conference presentations;

• institutional reports;

• policy documents;

• professional portfolios;

• translations; and

• other lawful academic or professional activities.

Authors must ensure that reuse does not misrepresent the original findings or violate the rights of research participants or third-party copyright holders.

Author Responsibilities and Warranties

By submitting a manuscript, the authors confirm that:

• the work is original;

• the manuscript has not been published previously in substantially the same form;

• the manuscript is not being considered simultaneously by another journal;

• all listed authors have approved the submission and publication;

• all copyrighted materials have been used with appropriate permission or under a lawful exception;

• all sources have been properly acknowledged;

• the manuscript does not contain defamatory, unlawful, fraudulent, or misleading material;

• the research complies with relevant ethical standards; and

• publication does not violate confidentiality, privacy, institutional, contractual, or legal obligations.

Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission to reproduce any copyrighted material that is not owned by them and is not covered by an applicable open license or lawful exception.

Third-Party Materials

The CC BY 4.0 license generally applies to the article as a whole unless a credit line or notice states otherwise.

Certain photographs, figures, tables, maps, questionnaires, assessment instruments, scales, datasets, artworks, or other materials obtained from third parties may be subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions.

Third-party material that is not included under the article’s CC BY 4.0 license must be clearly identified.

Users who wish to reuse such material are responsible for obtaining permission directly from the relevant copyright holder when required.

Research Participant Rights

The CC BY 4.0 license does not override privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, data protection, or ethical restrictions.

Identifiable photographs, personal information, interview material, confidential data, and information involving children or vulnerable participants may be subject to additional restrictions.

Reuse of such material must comply with the consent provided by participants and all applicable ethical and legal requirements.

Moral Rights

Authors retain their moral rights, including the right to be properly identified as the creators of their work and the right to object to misleading, derogatory, or seriously distorted uses of their work, subject to applicable law.

Users must not alter a published work in a manner that falsely represents the authors’ views, methods, evidence, findings, or conclusions.

Data, Software, and Supplementary Materials

Research data, software, instruments, appendices, and supplementary materials may be subject to the CC BY 4.0 license or another license identified by the authors or journal.

Any different licensing conditions must be stated clearly.

Users must follow the license and ethical conditions that apply to each dataset, software package, instrument, or supplementary item.

Metadata

The bibliographic metadata of articles published by the journal may be collected, distributed, indexed, harvested, stored, and reused for scholarly communication, library services, discovery systems, preservation, and research purposes.

Metadata reuse must not falsely represent the journal, authors, or publication status of an article.

Corrections and Retractions

Copyright ownership and licensing do not prevent the journal from issuing corrections, Expressions of Concern, retractions, or removal notices when necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

A corrected or retracted article may remain accessible with an appropriate notice explaining its status.

Users who reuse journal content are responsible for checking whether the article has been corrected, updated, or retracted.

Commercial Reuse

The CC BY 4.0 license permits commercial reuse, provided that all attribution and license requirements are followed.

Commercial reuse must not imply endorsement by the authors, editors, journal, publisher, or affiliated institutions.

The journal and publisher are not responsible for unauthorized, misleading, unethical, or unlawful adaptations made by third parties.

Permission Requests

Additional permission from the journal is generally not required for material covered by the CC BY 4.0 license.

Permission may still be required when:

• third-party material is excluded from the article’s license;

• identifiable participant information is involved;

• confidential or restricted research data are requested;

• institutional or legal restrictions apply; or

• the proposed use falls outside the applicable license.
